This is my sister, Libby, and me. Beautiful isn’t she? She was your average 18 year old girl. She listened to music, flirted with boys, and went to the beach with her friends. But she was also a really good actress. Everyday she woke up and pretended she wasn’t depressed. She pretended she wasn’t bulimic. And she pretended she was happy. Everyday she would leave for school and I’d tell her I loved her. Shed smile and say I love you too. One day she told our mum that she was sick and wanted to stay home from school. Mum thought nothing of it and told her okay. My brothers, younger sister, and I all left for school or work. A couple hours later I received a frantic phone call from my brother, Piers. “Get home now! RIGHT NOW!” He yelled. I rushed home as fast as I could. When I got to my house an ambulance was parked out front. My brother Thatcher was sitting on the stairs with his face in his hands. My other brother Royce was shaking uncontrollably next to him. I rushed to them and demanded to know what happened. Who was hurt? Thatcher looked at me and said ‘Libby’ I ran inside and found my mum crumpled on the bathroom floor…..covered in blood. I knew from the moment I saw the blood what had happened. But I didn’t want to believe it. I ran to my sisters room praying I’d find her laying sick in her bed. She wasn’t there… I picked up her cell phone, which had buzzed, she had over 20 unread messages. I read one it was from a girl who disliked Libby it said ‘you’re a fucking whore’. I dropped the phone and ran back to my brothers. I cried with them until finally someone came and told us that our sister was dead. Every single one of our lives changed that day. And every year on the day she died we each die a little more. That was three years ago. I miss my sister everyday more and more. Please know that you are beautiful no matter if you’re straight, gay, bi, black, white, BLUE, ANYTHING. You belong in this world. Do NOT take yourself out of it. Someone loves you, and someone WILL miss you.
